Couple of weeks back I had read posts about this new series on Netflix. I don’t usually watch or read these genres – violence, politics, crime and the likes. But then I also have a curious head! It popped-up a question, ‘what is so special about this ‘Sacred Games’ series?’ That was enough for me to go and check the synopsis. That was enough for me to watch a few minutes of the first episode. Enough for me to keep watching the entire episode. Then, I had to watch the entire series, in one sitting!
Was sacrificing a night’s sleep worth it? Hell, yes! Not even once I had a thought to just switch off the screen and sleep! I knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep without knowing what happens in the story.
Sacred Games! A gem created by the performers from the Indian Cinema. It is a TV series but people who have worked on it have ensured that it doesn’t lack anything if compared to a movie. In fact, it offers much more than a movie.
Vikram Chandra, the writer of the novel – Sacred Games – seems to have done a fabulous job. I am yet to read the book. Of course, I am already looking for it. The directors of the series, Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane are brilliant in every scene. I was a fan of Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte, but unlike most of the times, I also liked watching Saif Ali Khan this time. I called them performers because not even once I could see that a character is saying or doing anything larger than life just to match the actors’ stardom. This is such a welcome change in the creations from out industry these days. This couldn’t have been a gem if any of the team members wouldn’t have done a superb job.
They have shown the seedy world of Mumbai city and the hazy connections between politics, police force and the underworld. The plot itself is gripping enough to keep you hooked. The world created on screen is worth the watch!
